Worker health and hygiene are critical to ensuring produce safety, emphasizing the prevention of contamination from human sources. Workers must be trained to follow proper handwashing procedures, particularly before handling produce, after using the restroom, and after breaks or eating. Employers should provide clean and accessible handwashing facilities, with soap, clean water, and single-use towels. Ill workers, especially those with symptoms of gastrointestinal illness, must be excluded from handling produce to prevent the spread of pathogens. Regular training and monitoring ensure workers understand their role in maintaining food safety and minimizing risks on the farm.
