Farmshare Austin High Tunnel Workshop & Farm Tour - $50, 9am - 4pm

Join us on January 27th for a hands-on workshop at Farmshare Austin (www.farmshareaustin.org), a non-profit teaching farm just southeast of Austin. Spend the day learning about high tunnel design, uses and installation. Lorig Hawkins from Middle Ground Farm will be guiding us through the installation of a 30x60 ft greenhouse.

9:00 - 9:45am - Optional: Arrive early for a tour of Farmshare Austin!

10am - 11am - Michelle Akindiya, Farmshare Austin’s Education Director will provide an overview of high tunnel uses & structures in the classroom

11am - 11:15am - break 

11:15am - 1pm - Lorig Hawkins from Middle Ground Farm will lead us in the installation of our 60 x 30 ft high tunnel

1pm - 2pm - Lunch will be provided.

2pm - 3:00 pm - We will continue the high tunnel construction

3:00 - 4:00pm - Presentation about NRCS EQIP funding for High Tunnels

Please come dressed for the weather. Closed toed shoes, a water bottle, and a mask to wear indoors will be required. You may also want to wear a pair of gloves. Farmshare Austin is located at 3608 River Road, Cedar Creek 78612, about a 50 minute drive south of the Georgetown Conference Center. 

Texas Network of Farmers Markets Annual Meet Up- FREE, Hybrid- 1pm-4pm

The Texas Center for Local Food is hosting the annual meet up of the Texas Network of Farmers Markets. Farmers market organizers will get the first scoop on new statewide support for SNAP at your farmers market and learn about possible new funding opportunities in 2022. There will be roundtable discussions for large and small farmers markets and newbies too covering topics of SNAP, COVID-19, and other topics of interest.

Green Gate Farms Tour- $20, 10am


Come experience a cutting edge approach to community farming. The founders of Green Gate Farms, a certified organic farm started in 2006, will present on how they helped create the first agrihood of its kind: a farm-centered development featuring more than 100+ Tiny Homes around their historic East Austin farm. Their tour will highlight the farm's vibrant volunteer and farm-based education programming as well as vegetable, fruit and flower fields. Refreshments served in the historic Bergstrom farmhouse. Millberg Farm Tour- $20, 10am

In their 33rd year of being a certified organic permaculture farm Millberg Farm has a diversified operation with 140 fruit trees of peaches, haupt figs, persimmons, pomegranates, mullberries and the 1st 12 certified organic pecans in Texas. Mixed in are 26 raised beds protected by deep dug 1 ½ miles of trenches that are filled with woodchips that serve as a heat source and pathways on their much improved blackland clay soil. They have never pumped any aquifer water only hand watering by a complex but gravity fed rainwater collection system. Heirlooms are their main vegetable crops with alliums that all multiply garlic, leeks and 2 types of true green onions. They currently have designed and landscaped 5 acres into a much loved home and farm but also grow partially on an adjacent 12 acres. There is lots to see with raised rock mound planting beds, furrow/dike beds, terraced slope growing and high intensity beds (HIBs).

Boggy Creek Farm Tour - $20, 1pm 

Established in 1992, by Larry Butler and Carol Ann Sayle, Boggy Creek Farm (www.boggycreekfarm.com) is one of the first urban vegetable farms in Texas, just 3 miles from downtown Austin. The regenerative, no till, five acres are harvested year-round an sold at the on-site farm stand, just steps away from the fields, for a fresh farm-to-table experience.

Belle Vie Farm Tour - $20, 2pm  Cancelled

Belle Vie Farm and Kitchen (www.belleviefarm.com) are starting their sixth year sustainably raising ducks, chickens, and pork on forty acres. The farm is run by a Texan/French couple who market meats and added value products directly to consumers and to Austin restaurants. All feed is organic and milled on the farm. Their pigs are raised in a newly finished wagon wheel system in the woods incorporating cover crops. Since the first season, all poultry have been raised on pasture following a managed intensive grazing system in mobile paddocks.

Join us as we visit Aubrey and Perrine's beautiful pastures 50 minutes east of Georgetown. The address is 4200 CR 481, Thrall, TX 76578. Please Google Map this, but know that it will often tell you to take a small dirt road just before you get to the Belle Vie called CR 312 or Aidina Church Rd. Do not take this road. Proceed further down CR 481 and you will see a red gate on the right hand side.
