TOFGA is now accepting nominations for Board of Director positions, including:
Who can be nominated?
Any active member can nominate another member or themselves (self-nomination is encouraged) as a representative in their own region and for any at-large position. Membership status and willingness to serve will be verified before elections. You will need your member number and region number in order to make a nomination. Log in at http://tofga.org/Sys/Login then click on your name at the top of the page to view your profile. There you will find your member number and region, and can verify your “active” status. A member may only nominate a regional director for their region.
What positions are up for election?
According to TOFGA By-laws, elections for Directors representing odd-numbered regions (click here http://tofga.org/tofgaregions to view regions and list of current board members) will occur in odd-numbered years, as will elections for Vice-President, Treasurer, and the At-Large position representing New and Beginning Farmers. We will also accept nominations for any vacant positions.
What does a board member do?
TOFGA Board members are asked to commit approximately 4 hours per month, including online meetings and follow-up duties, plus additional time leading up to the annual conference and the all-day summer retreat. With support of TOFGA staff, regional directors will produce at least two regional gatherings each year, and all will serve as general advocates for TOFGA and represent TOFGA to the public.
What do I get out of it?
Serving on the TOFGA board is a valuable opportunity to support real grassroots organization with 25+ year history serving Organic farms in Texas. Plus, you’ll meet some amazing people doing amazing things and gain experience in whatever capacity is of interest to you - administrative, policy, financial, etc.
Please contact Andrew W. Smiley, TOFGA President (firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-413-7774) with any questions.
